Norway turns to Telenor for military communications

A framework agreement worth up to NOK 950 million positions Telenor at the centre of defence connectivity

The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (Forsvarsmateriell) has selected Telenor to provide telephony services to the armed forces, covering both mobile and fixed communications across defence operations.

infrastructure in the defence sector. Telenor will deliver services designed to ensure stable connectivity and support the transmission of sensitive data.

The agreement has an estimated value of approximately NOK 750 million, excluding VAT. The maximum value that may be procured under the framework agreement over its duration, including all options, is NOK 950 million, excluding VAT.

The framework agreement runs for four years, with an option to extend for up to three additional years. Forsvarsmateriell states that the contract is built around strict requirements for information security and operational continuity.

Telenor retains control of its national infrastructure and platforms and reports extensive nationwide coverage.

Coverage in coastal areas, particularly in the north where the Norwegian Armed Forces operate, is identified as critical. Telenor has committed to further strengthening coverage over time, FMA said.
